Tips for safeguarding your door policy

Reading time: 2 minutes

Since the corona crisis, retailers have had to take various measures into account. Retailers are required to set a door policy and may only allow a maximum number of people, depending on the size of their store. Retailers must also ensure that their customers can always keep a distance of 1.5 meters. There are high fines for non-compliance with these rules. In the worst cases, a store can even be closed.

Monitor the door policy however, is not always easy, especially when customers show aggression because they do not agree with the rules. As a retailer, how can you best guarantee your door policy? We give you 7 tips.

7 tips for safeguarding your door policy

1. Place a sign clearly stating the rules

You place this sign in a clearly visible place in front of the store. This way, people are reminded of the rules even before they enter your store.

2. Make it clear why certain rules exist

For example: “Help prevent the spread of the coronavirus by complying with the following rules.” Or: “By bringing a basket, we can ensure that there are not too many people in the store at the same time.”

3. Don't leave counting the number of visitors to your customer

You can monitor the number of people in your store by using shopping carts or baskets. Have the carts or baskets run out? Then the customer has to wait a while.

4. Make shopping baskets and shopping carts available for free

When people are obliged to take a shopping cart with them, while they do not have a coin with them, this can lead to frustration.

5. Also post all rules and the explanation of the rules on your website and/or social media

This way you can refer to the rules if necessary.

6. Reward good behavior

For example, thank your visitors when they clean their shopping cart or return their basket.

7. Hire a security guard

Unfortunately, it is difficult for many store employees to enforce the rules. Are these tips unable to guarantee the door policy? Or do you want your staff to be able to fully focus on their work? Then it is wise to hire a security guard. You can read more about this below.
