Security guards well able to enforce corona rules

Reading time: 1 minute

The Dutch security companies are able and willing to support the enforcement of the announced corona measures. This is what Ard van der Steur, chairman of the Dutch Security Industry, says in response to the decision of the security regions to enforce stricter compliance with corona rules.

The police and boas unions have indicated that their members are not or hardly capable of taking on stricter enforcement. “We understand very well,” says Van der Steur, “that the police and the boas have their hands full enforcing the extra measures. That is why we offer support through the use of qualified security guards.”

Partnerships
Private security guards can play a supporting role, says Van der Steur. In the current circumstances, this applies, for example, to supermarkets and shopping centres. When the hospitality industry reopens, security guards can also take on that role there. The chairman of the Dutch Security Industry points out that Minister Grapperhaus (Justice and Security) also advocated cooperation between the public and private sector in April and created opportunities to deploy security guards in more places in the public space during the corona crisis.

A lot of work lost
A lot of work has been lost for part of the security sector – partly as a result of the closure of the catering industry and the cancellation of events. "An excellent opportunity to have these people, who are well trained and screened, make this socially important contribution to the safer course of our daily lives."
