New method for dealing with shoplifting

The police will start April 6 with a new method of handling doors first-time offenders committed shoplifting and internet reporting. In recent months, a successful pilot has taken place under the heading of 'meaningful handling of shoplifting for adult first offenders'.

 

The new method provides advantages for both shopkeepers and the police. The whole process is more user-friendly and ensures a much more efficient handling, according to the police. The new method entails two important changes for the retailer. The first is that the declaration can be made digitally (also via smartphone) at www.politie.nl/winkeltheft. The second is that of age first-time offenders can (under certain conditions) receive a reprimand.

Public-private cooperation

The new method replaces the current systems with which notifications and declarations are handled. The pilot was carried out in public-private partnership with the police, the Public Prosecution Service and several retailers (associations).
