Influence of vaccinations on security world

Reading time: 2 minutes

On January 6, 2021, the Netherlands started the first vaccinations against the corona virus. Hugo de Jonge, Minister of Health, indicated that it is a "mega operation". It is expected that the vaccination will have a major impact on the course of the corona crisis and will bring an end to a (large part) of the current restrictions. But what are the consequences of the first vaccinations on the security world? You read it here.

First vaccinations for care

Healthcare workers are vaccinated first, followed by residents of nursing homes and other people who receive care within an institution. Then it is the turn of the elderly and people with a medical indication. Finally, it is the turn of healthy people up to the age of 60.

More need for security in healthcare

The corona crisis increased the need for security in healthcare. More than a quarter of staff in healthcare institutions and hospitals have been confronted with aggression in the past period. Visitors and/or family of patients did not always want to comply with the corona measures and more often took stress out on healthcare workers.

It is not clear what effect vaccinations will have on this trend. Will there be even more frustration with healthcare workers, now that they are the only ones already getting a vaccination? Can we expect aggression from anti-vaxxers? Or will there be more peace now that the corona crisis is coming to an end? How this will turn out is not yet clear, but for the time being it seems wise to maintain security in healthcare institutions.

Security at vaccination points

It is also good to think about security at vaccination points. Security guards can help to guarantee the 1.5-meter rule and to ensure that all vaccinations run smoothly. Again, security personnel can detect any aggression - from anti-vaxxers or from another angle - to and prevent disasters.

The event season 2021

Then the events industry, For them the year 2020 was perhaps the toughest year ever. Almost all festivals were canceled and many sporting and cultural events could not take place. Now that the first vaccinations have been put in place, the hope is growing that the event season can take place in 2021. This is also good news for event security professionals. The use of security, as usual, is of course essential here.
