Retail security guard
Khalid currently works as a security guard in a store. He starts his working day by reporting to the manager and the staff. He then has a short chat with the manager to discuss any details. Then he does his rounds.
Khalid: “In summary, my work consists of preventing theft and aggression. For this I am constantly observing people and making sure that I am visible
I am present in the store, so that everyone knows that the store is secured.”
To deal with aggression
Yet Khalid has also experienced people becoming aggressive, for example because they do not agree that he addresses them about something. It is also possible that someone has stolen something and is looking for a way out of the situation. “Then people sometimes shout things or use physical violence,” Khalid explains. “But because of my education and work experience, I know how to deal with this, so don't be afraid of that.”
The importance of good communication
Fortunately, it usually doesn't get that far. “What many people underestimate is how important communication is to the security profession,” says Khalid. “It's not always about action. By observing carefully, assessing situations properly, and communicating clearly, you can solve 99% of the situations.”
Every day is different
Khalid doesn't have to think long about what's so fun about working as a security guard. “No day is the same,” he replies. “You never know in advance what will happen that day. Of course there are also days when nothing exciting happens, but I also enjoy them. For example, by providing extra service to the shopkeepers, or helping customers pack.”
Reliability
The reason why he has enjoyed working for Dutch Crowd Security for so long? “DCS is a reliable employer that always fulfills its agreements. That is the most important thing for me.”
