What is object security?

Reading time: 2 minutes

Object security is a commonly used term in the security world and consists of the whole of doorman, security and reception services, whereby a certain object is protected against vandalism and theft. Object security is used throughout the Netherlands and is the most commonly used form of security. Object security officers are deployed in almost every private or public building such as office buildings, industrial estates, libraries and hospitals.

What does an object security guard do?

By using object security, security guards can help an organization with various security services. The work that an object security officer takes on consists of checking and registering visitors, so that unwanted persons cannot enter public places or private buildings.

Open and close office buildings.

The object security officer may also be responsible for opening and closing office buildings and securing them at night. In this way they create a safe situation for employees and visitors. This also includes control rounds, such as closing fire and closing rounds, to be able to intercept potentially dangerous situations.

Night surveillance and sounding alarm.

Closing windows is sometimes forgotten, making it easy for intruders to enter a building. During his or her round, an object security guard checks whether all windows and doors are properly closed. It is also checked whether potentially dangerous equipment has been switched off, such as electric heaters for the office and other items that can cause a fire.

Once all these matters have been checked, the entire building can be closed off and the object security officer will activate the alarm system. Should this go off, the trained object security guard will respond and know how to act.

How does this security help entrepreneurs?

Intruders and vandals visit empty office buildings and 'abandoned' construction sites, especially at night. Usually there are a lot of valuable items up for grabs here and entrepreneurs are left with a considerable cost item. The stolen items must be replaced and they often have to deal with expensive repairs due to the damage caused.

Insurance sounds obvious, but in some industries this is simply too expensive. Insuring construction equipment and materials can be so expensive that it is not an option for every entrepreneur. In this situation, object security can be a solution for a company.
