The European Football Championship is coming!

Reading time: 2 minutes

After a long wait, it's almost time.... On June 11 at 21:00, the European Football Championship for men, which should have taken place in 2020, will start. It promises to be a special European Championship with competitions throughout Europe and... with an audience! Dutch Crowd Security secures the matches in Amsterdam. And we are very much looking forward to that!

EURO 2020: one year later than planned

The first European Football Championship took place in 1960 at the Parc des Princes stadium in Paris, France. Since then, the European Championship has been played every four years. The last European Championship for men took place in 2016, also in France. In that year, for the first time in history, no less than 24 countries took part in the tournament, an expansion of 8 countries, which also meant that more matches were played.

The European Championship should therefore have taken place again in 2020. Hence the name of the event: 'EURO 2020'. The reason that the European Championship was canceled will not surprise anyone: Europe was plagued by the first wave of coronavirus infections in the summer of 2020. And so many countries went into lockdown.

The decision: the European Championships will continue… with an audience!

Football fans across Europe held their hearts out again this year. Would the European Championship go ahead this year? At the beginning of this year, UEFA made the decision: the European Championship will continue, according to the original plan: 51 matches in 12 European cities. And Orange fans don't have to travel far, because four of these games will take place in the Johan Cruijff Arena in Amsterdam!

For a long time it was of course the question whether an audience could be present at the matches. Different scenarios were worked out, from no audience to 100% audience. At the moment it seems that audience at all games will be. How much of the normal capacity is used will differ per country.

Field lab event

In the Netherlands, the European Championship will probably be as Field lab event be organised, which means that all visitors must be tested prior to the event. It is expected that the full capacity of the stage detained.

Don't have a ticket yet? Unfortunately… then you will have to wait another four years before you can see the orange men's team play a European Championship match live, because all tickets were already sold out in 2019.

Security by Dutch Crowd Security

As mentioned, the matches in Amsterdam take place in the Johan Cruijff ArenA. To Dutch Crowd Security the honor ofOuter Security Perimeter': a large part of the European Championship area around the ArenA, which is completely fenced off. We are looking forward to it!
