Major events may be held in July

Reading time: 1 minute

Events can probably take place again in July. That is what State Secretary Mona Keijzer of Economic Affairs says to nu.nl. If events cannot take place, the organizers will receive compensation for the costs incurred. It's good news for event security professionals.

If an event has to be canceled after July 1 due to corona, the organizer will receive 80 percent of the costs incurred as a gift and the rest as a loan. A regulation on this was sent to the House of Representatives on Friday. The events industry has long lobbied for a guarantee fund, so that people do not have to wait with preparations until more is clear about the course of the corona crisis. Many costs have to be incurred long before the event is scheduled. The guarantee fund is intended for festivals, concerts, sporting events and business events that will take place between July 1 and December 31, 2021 and that were also regularly held before the corona crisis. Events that are postponed from spring to autumn also fall under the scheme, for which the cabinet has reserved 385 million euros.

Vaccinations
Although everyone who wants to be vaccinated can be vaccinated around July, the cabinet does not expect that the Netherlands will be able to go wild again by then. Certain measures may still have to be maintained during events, such as social distancing, face masks and rapid tests. That then becomes an additional challenge for security. Experience is currently being gained with events to learn under what conditions they can take place without people infecting each other. According to Minister Ingrid van Engelshoven of Education, Culture and Science, much depends on the number of vaccinations in which form events can be organized after July 1.
