Cabinet is working on experiments reopening the catering industry

Reading time: 2 minutes

Various experiments will be started this month to see if catering and events can go wild again at the end of this year. The condition is that the tests are a success and the number of infections is manageable.

All bars, restaurants and clubs had to close their doors on October 14 because corona spread too wildly. Various ministries have now started working together with the catering and events industry to set up a number of experiments, so a trial with 25 restaurants will start next week, RTL reports.

Those businesses may reopen, provided they strictly adhere to the following rules:

Rules catering

– A strict door policy: a maximum number of visitors per square meter is allowed.
– There must be good ventilation.
– A maximum of four people can sit per table.
– Walking routes for customers and staff.
– Guests must wear masks when moving around.
– There will be cough screens in the shops.
– Clear agreements about closing times and the sale of alcohol.

The trial should start this month, so that the first results will be known at the beginning of December. If they are positive, and the number of infections continues to fall, the cabinet would like restaurants to be able to reopen before the turn of the year.

Football, concerts and conferences

In addition, experiments with public events are being carried out. For example, the industry has made a plan to test with two football matches, an indoor event, a business conference, a theater performance and two outdoor festivals.

Various measures are tested during these events. One of the plans is to organize a concert for 1300 people in the Ziggo Dome or Ahoy. Visitors are then divided into 'bubbles' of a maximum of 250 people. Each compartment then has its own bar and sanitary facilities.

Not 1,5 meters away

Within the bubble, even the 1,5 meter distance could then be released. Visitors will be screened for up to two weeks afterwards to see whether they have contracted the corona virus or not.

For football matches with an audience, consider the Johan Cruyff Arena, the Goffert Stadium or the Rat Verlegh Stadium Breda. The Beatrix Theater in Utrecht is in the picture for the business conference and the theater performance. The outdoor festivals should preferably take place in Walibi Flevo.

The national board will make a decision about these experiments next Friday. If successful, the industry hopes that events will be possible again in the long term with an occupancy rate of 60 to 70 percent.

Rules events

– Behaviour: visitors advised not to have any contact until 14 days after visit must be risk group.
– Triage: filling in a questionnaire, temperature measurement on arrival, rapid tests as a sample.
– Air quality: there must be good ventilation.
– Visitors: arrive at different times, are assigned a fixed seat.
– Cleaning: regularly disinfect surfaces, hand disinfection.
– Vulnerable groups: people over 55 years old excluded from participation.
