1,5 meter rule not for private security guards

Reading time: 1 minute

The cabinet has decided that private security guards, if necessary, do not have to comply with the 1,5 meter rule. At the insistence of the Dutch security sector and various factions in the House of Representatives, private security guards are equated in this respect with, for example, healthcare providers and police officers.

Ard van der Steur, chairman of the Dutch Security Industry, is pleased with this decision. “It is a recognition of the important public function that our security officers fulfill. Like other care providers, they cannot always observe the requested 1,5 meter distance in their work. The fact that the cabinet recognizes this shows a sense of reality and is rightly so.”

Obvious exception category

The government has informed the House of Representatives that the bill Temporary Measures COVID-19 will be amended. Just like the police, fire brigade and healthcare, security guards from a recognized security company also form an 'evident exception category', says the cabinet. It is therefore appropriate to 'regulate this exception at the legislative level'. In the House of Representatives, the VVD, D66, PvdA and SGP insisted on the exceptional position for security guards after a call for this from the Dutch security sector.
